Enterprise Risk Manager, Banking

Our Client’s main banking activities are trade finance, corporate banking, treasury and UK buy to let mortgages. The bank, a subsidiary of an African banking group,  is currently developing a broader personal and business banking proposition, targeted at the African diaspora through a digital banking division and platform, and aspires to build a payments and transaction banking capability for corporate and institutional customers, our client based in London is currently searching for an Enterprise Risk Manager.



As a Senior Risk Officer you will be responsible for managing a comprehensive risk framework across the bank, encompassing operational risk, resiliency and continuity, IT and Cyber risk, model risk, market risk, and outsourcing third-party risk management. Your role will involve developing, implementing, and overseeing risk management strategies specific to these areas, ensuring the overall stability and security of the bank.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operational Risk & Resiliency Management:
  • Identify and assess operational risks associated with banking processes.
  • Develop and implement strategies to mitigate operational risks, including business continuity planning and incident response.
  • Working with 1st LOD, embed operational risk policy.
  • Work collaboratively with 1st LOD on operational resiliency and business continuity.


  1. IT & Cyber Risk Management:
  • Evaluate IT and cyber risk management across the banking platforms.
  • Collaborate with IT security teams to implement robust cybersecurity measures, conduct regular vulnerability assessments, and ensure compliance with industry standards.


  1. Model Risk Management:
  • Assess the accuracy and effectiveness of models used within the bank.
  • Implement model risk management practices, including model validation, to ensure the reliability of models used for risk assessment and decision-making.
  • Credit Model Review.



  1. Market Risk Management:
  • Analyse market risks associated with treasury and other banking activities.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies to address market volatility, interest rate fluctuations, and other market-related factors.


  1. Outsourcing and Third-Party Risk Management:
  • Evaluate and assess risks associated with outsourcing arrangements and third-party relationships in the context of trade finance and digital retail banking.
  • Develop and implement robust oversight processes to monitor and manage outsourcing and third-party risks effectively.


  1. Risk Assessment and Analysis:
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, considering operational, IT and Cyber, model, market, and outsourcing risks collectively.
  • Analyse the interplay between different risk types and their impact on the overall risk profile of the organisation.
  • Assurance on Credit from an appetite and modelling perspective.


  1. Policy Development and Implementation:


  1. Compliance Monitoring:
  • Monitor compliance with regulatory requirements related to operational, IT and Cyber, model, market, and outsourcing risks.
  • Work closely with compliance teams to address any identified gaps and ensure adherence to relevant laws and regulations.


  1. Reporting and Communication:
  • Prepare and present comprehensive risk reports to senior management and relevant committees, covering operational, IT and Cyber, model, market, and outsourcing risks.
  • Communicate key risk metrics, trends, and emerging issues to stakeholders.


  1. Training and Development:
  • Provide training and support to staff involved in trade finance and digital retail banking, enhancing awareness of operational, IT and Cyber, model, market, and outsourcing risks.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master's degree in Finance, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • Rating agency experience a preference.
  • UK Subsidiary banking experience global/private banking experience.
  • Experience in risk management within the banking industry, with a focus on trade finance and digital retail banking.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and industry best practices, specifically in operational risk, IT and Cyber risk, model risk, market risk, and outsourcing risk.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
