Credit Risk Manager / Underwriter, Commodity Trade Finance - Zurich


Our client is a large European Bank looking for a motivated and high-performing (Senior) Credit Risk Manager with strong quantitative and analytical skills to join the growing and dynamic Risk function.   The (Senior) Credit Risk Manager/Underwriter will be responsible for analysis and underwriting of counterparty risk in regards to Commodity Trade Finance in the global oil/gas, metals and/or soft business and to establish related limits in close cooperation with Sales and Credit Department the Bank and the Risk Department of the parent Bank. The (Senior) Credit Risk Manager/Underwriter will cover a portfolio of Commodity Trading Houses with emphasis on major global, Russian and CIS markets counterparties.


As key credit stakeholder for any Commodity Trade Finance related topics, you will be involved in further evolving the Risk function for Commodity Trade Finance related products, incl. development and refinement of best practices, processes, documentation and tool(s).


The ideal candidate is a self-starter, well organised and structured team player who contributes with deep understanding of Commodity Trade Finance products, in particular transactional lending, to the development of the Risk function and to the Bank in general.  Our client needs a candidate who is highly motivated, has good communication and presentation skills and is interested – with a fresh international mind-set - to embrace a fast-paced, ever changing environment in growing bank based in Zurich, Switzerland and backed by one of the largest European banks.



  • Credit and counterparty risk assessment, analysis of financial, industry and other relevant information (all aspects of risk), structuring of the limits and facilities to properly mitigate the risks, provide recommendations to the decision-makers;
  • Advising files in light of strategy and underwriting criteria/requirements of the Bank and Headquarters;
  • Collaboration with Business as internal customer, Credit unit, Headquarters;
  • Ongoing credit monitoring and reviews;
  • Portfolio management activities and regular reporting to the Management;
  • Bring best practices, develop guidelines;
  • Support Head of CTF Underwriting Group in all other projects and initiatives;
  • Coach and train less experienced team members of transactions and credit files;
  • Direct reporting line to the Head of CTF Underwriting Group.


Candidate Profile:

  • At least 7 years corporate banking experience of which minimum 4 years in CTF Credit Risk (candidates with 4 years’ experience in CTF Credit Risk only are also to be considered);
  • Strong quantitative aptitude and proven analytical skills, with a high attention to detail;
  • Proactive, matured and reliable personality, self-starting, showing push to new solutions;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills;
  • Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills;
  • Able to think ‘out of the box’; able to lead improvements in the area of CTF underwriting; objective thinking, demanding towards via-a-vis; efficient despite pressure and multitasking;
  • University degree in Finance, Economy, Management, or Mathematics with demonstrated ongoing professional skills improvements;
  • CTF-related, CFA, FRM, ACCA or CIMA qualification would be a plus;
  • Knowledge of FINMA relevant requirements;
  • Commodity trading and derivatives related experience would be also a plus;
  • Fluent (spoken and written) English; German and Russian would be a plus;
  • Swiss / EU passport or valid Swiss work permit.
